“German Design Award 2016” in gold for Recaro Aircraft Seating
// Recaro wins premium award with economy class seat CL3710 in the category “Public Design”
Schwaebisch Hall, Germany. This award is given only to the best of the best – in 2016 the "German Design Award" in gold goes to Recaro Aircraft Seating. In the category "Public Design," the economy class seat CL3710 prevailed in a strong field of international competitors. The award ceremony of the German Design Award 2016 will take place in Frankfurt on February 12, 2016.
"With its premium award in gold, the German Design Council recognizes, in their own words, ‘excellence in international design.’ This makes us proud – all the more as this award is one of the most respected design competitions in the world and enjoys an excellent reputation far beyond specialist circles," says Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Officer and Shareholder of Recaro Aircraft Seating. "With our CL3710 we have once again successfully proved that we are among the best of the best. This applies not only to the outstanding and award-winning design of the seats but also to quality, comfort, and lightweight design. With this product, we are setting standards for long-haul flights in the economy class."
Highlight product for the economy class
The CL3710 is the product highlight of Recaro Aircraft Seating for the economy class cabin and was already recognized with two awards in 2015 – the "Focus Gold" award and the "iF Design Award." Passengers enjoy maximum comfort in this seat: Recaro’s entire expertise in ergonomics was incorporated into the CL3710. As part of the product development, 18 patent applications were filed. For example, the ergonomic headrest is unique in its combination of many features: It can be adjusted in six different ways, allowing it to be optimized to suit passengers of different sizes. It also provides optimized neck support that can be tipped horizontally.
Many airlines are already convinced of the seat’s qualities. Numerous Recaro customers around the world have ordered the CL3710 for their fleet since its premiere at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2013: At the end of 2014, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines became the first airline to enter the seat into service. CL3710 sales are now within the triple-digit million Euro range.
