First A320neo delivery with Recaro seats for easyJet

// Award-winning lightweight SL3510 seat reduces CO2 emissions

SCHWAEBISCH HALL, Germany – easyJet has taken delivery of the first new A320neo aircraft, equipped with the comfortable, lightweight SL3510 seats from Recaro Aircraft Seating. easyJet ordered 20,000 of the maintenance-friendly economy class seats from Recaro to equip 130 A320neo family aircraft. The lightweight seat reduces aircraft weight and therefore CO2 emissions.

easyJet and Recaro Aircraft Seating enjoy a strong partnership. Since 2013, the airline has been equipping all new aircraft exclusively with Recaro’s SL3510 seats, and since 2015, its entire fleet. “With Recaro Aircraft Seating, we have a partner that delivers both passenger comfort and weight savings, which is critical in reducing our environmental imapct” says Gary Smith, Head of Engineering at easyJet. Through the installation of the Recaro seats, each easyJet aircraft weighs close to 600 kilograms less. This helps the airline reduce fuel consumption while significantly lowering CO2 emissions per passenger.

“Sustainability is intrinsic to Recaro's corporate strategy,” says Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Officer and Shareholder at Recaro Aircraft Seating. “Our commitment goes well beyond the development of lightweight seats which result in significant kerosene savings. For Recaro, acting sustainably means taking responsibility for people, the environment and society at large.” With the stringent introduction of a comprehensive environmental management system, Recaro is signaling the priority the company places on professional environmental protection and resource conservation. All four of the aircraft seat manufacturer’s locations are certified according to DIN EN ISO 14001.

Recaros lightweight seat – the innovative SL3510

Recaro’s Ingenious Design combines outstanding passenger comfort with economic advantages and ecological benefits. The proven SL3510 economy class seat for short-haul applications weighs in at around nine kilograms. At the same time, thanks to the narrow backrest made of an aluminium frame covered with an innovative netting material, the aircraft seat offers more legroom and passenger comfort. The backrest, with its predefined inclination of 15 degrees, was conceived for relaxed sitting. The covering also ideally adapts to the passenger's spine. And finally, the seat is extremely robust thanks to a reduced number of components, which cuts down on maintenance costs for the airline. For easyJet, the seat comes with an integrated tablet holder.
